Celebrating First Lady Trina Gillam
#fabfaithfilledfirstladies Feature #4
Maintaining Faith in God is essential in serving as a leader in Ministry. I use my personal testimonies to remind me how faithful God is in my life. He has never failed to deliver in times of need. I strive to be consistent in my faith and service to him. God has a great reward for those who serve him. There are times I have been tested. It is during these times I pray and read the Word of God to push me through. Keeping faith in God keeps him smiling and pleased because we are in His will. I want to keep my heavenly father smiling and pleased with my service.

I am a work in progress knowing that I am not free of attacks from the enemy.
Describe Your Role as First Lady: My first role is to serve God and support my husband as a Ministry Leader. I consider myself a cheerleader for him and the vision that God has given him. I also consider myself a “first follower” and partner. My role also includes loving and supporting the people of God which is very important. I want people to feel the love of Christ when we are together. I am very hands on and involved with the congregation.
What is the best advice that you’ve been given about being a First Lady: I was told to “Be who God has called you to be and support your husband.” I have received a plethora of advice and support that has helped me to be the best that I can be as a First Lady. I am a work in progress knowing that I am not free of attacks from the enemy. I am so thankful to be a part of a Pastor’s Wives Support Group, organized by First Lady Sherrelle Arnold, Kingdom Life Church. I am so thankful First Lady Arnold obeyed God for organizing such an amazing group of sisters. Words can’t express how much this group means to me. We love and support each other in a non-intimidating way that encourages you in your role and purpose as a First Lady.
What is the biggest challenge that you face as First Lady: There are challenges as a First Lady because you are serving people with hopes to inspire them in some positive way. The biggest challenge is making sure you make time for yourself to ensure your personal life is in balance. Leaders are often serving while neglecting their own personal lives because of the drive and energy it takes to serve. Organizing work schedules, ministry commitments and finding time for self can be challenging. I try to incorporate physical/mental health breaks to take care of my needs to avoid burnout.
…make time for yourself to ensure your personal life is in balance.
On Saturdays, one can usually find you…participating in Ministry and family activities. I like to relax and keep it low key in preparation for Sunday service.
What is your favorite quote/scripture: Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. I also like 2 Chronicles 15:7 “Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded. These 2 scriptures provide encouragement to continue to walk in my God given purpose for this life.
Look for opportunities to connect with other First Ladies in a support group or conference… God called you to this role and he will equip you to be successful. He will fight all your battles.
What advice do you have for a First Lady new to her role: Don’t live alone in your role as a First Lady. Look for opportunities to connect with other First Ladies in a support group or conference. Pray and keep prayer as your first line of defense when attacked by the enemy. God called you to this role and he will equip you to be successful. He will fight all your battles.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years: Continuing to serve in Ministry as a Leader and leading in an organization that focuses on helping families and young children.
