Describe your role as First Lady: My primary role is to assist and support my husband. I also lead the New Members Ministry to assist in the assimilation of new members into the fold of the church. Our goal is to transition new members directly from new member orientation into ministry involvement.
What is the best advice that you’ve been given about being a First Lady: Do not pressure yourself into being and/or doing what people deem to be things first ladies should be or do. Just be yourself. God created all of us the way He intended, so always be the woman He designed you to be.
What is the biggest challenge that you face as First lady: I am a very loving person and with three small children, it is a great challenge to get around to love on our members after worship or church events.
It is vitally important that balance exists…
Why is it important to have balance in life? Balancing life is a tremendous challenge with all we have going on day to day. My husband works a full-time job, pastors the church, and was a full-time student until recently. In addition to being a wife and mother, I am also a student with Downline Ministries where I attend discipleship classes twice a week. It is vitally important that balance exists in order to ensure everyone’s needs are met including ours. Early in our marriage, my husband and I committed to not allowing anything or anyone to come between us, including children and/or ministry. With great effort, we have been successful in accomplishing this. We regularly have “state of the union” conversations to ensure the balance we perceive exists is accurate.
On Saturdays, one can usually find you… At gymnastics or sporting events, and hanging
What is your favorite quote/scripture: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” —Philippians 4:13
What advice do you have for a First Lady new to her role: God has uniquely gifted every believer according to I Corinthians 12. Therefore, it is important that first ladies pray and pursue what God has called and gifted her to do individually in addition to supporting her.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years: In 5 years, all of our children will be in school, so I will likely return to the nursing profession I love and have been employed in for over 14 years. Of course, I will continue serving in ministry alongside my husband and children. It is vitally important to me that our children are involved in serving. I am passionate about serving and it is important that I impart the same passion into my children in hopes that they will share the same passion.
