Describe your role as First Lady: I minister to young ladies, I’m a part of the Community Faith Building Network and I care for the elderly, sick and shut In. I recently traveled with one of my best friends to Baltimore MD, to John Hopkins University Hospital for her cancer treatment. This was the most rewarding experience because I had a chance to help someone push through a difficult season.
What is the best advice that you’ve been given about being a First Lady: Let God lead you and you can’t go wrong. Be encouraged by God and to always respect your mate as your Pastor. His decisions are not your decision so you must respect that because God called him and you are the help mate. Always stay in YOUR LANE…
I realize that it is a journey being the pastor, but the wife has to travel down his pathway as he follows Christ. There is a calling to us being his companion.
What is the biggest challenge that you face as First lady: When I speak with the ladies at my church in confidence to keep it that way. Speak even if you are not spoken to. Love everybody in spite of, because of and whatever OF. Be you and don’t try to please everybody, just please God.
Why is it so important to have a solid relationship with your husband? I realized that Satan was going to stay on our heels due to our ministry. We are to stay prayerful at all times and to love each other as God loves us. It”s so important to stay connected to the Word and meditate on the Word. Always sit and listen without criticism. Sometimes we are to be the listening ear and the shoulder to cry on not to condemn but to encourage. I realize that it is a journey being the pastor, but the wife has to travel down his pathway as he follows Christ. There is a calling to us being his companion. To realize that he is still our husband on the natural side and companion on the spiritual side. I had to realize that I am not perfect. We have big hats to wear and we are not to get the big head. Always stay prayerful and realize who is in control. Allow God be the source of validation.
Shakespeare wrote: Heavy is the head that wears the crown….
On Saturdays, one can usually find you…reading my Sunday School material or enjoying dinner with my husband and family. Sometimes going out with the girls, to give him a time of peace and meditation.
What is your favorite quote/scripture: To Whom Much Is Given, Much Is Required
Psalm 91:1 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High, Shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.”
What advice do you have for a First Lady new to her role: Stay prayerful and keep God first in your life and read Psalm 91 in its entirety. Be sure to also get you a 1st Lady Friend that’s been on the scene for a LONG TIME.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years: Like the song writer says, “Greater is coming” and to stand on the Word of God, wherever he takes me.
