Celebrating First Lady Freda

Learning the Power of “NO” has helped me to remain balanced in life. When I overschedule and over commit, everything of importance to me suffers… everything (Romance in my marriage, my children, my spirituality, health and career). So I try to simplify my life as much as possible, weeding out those unnecessary things.

During this season I really found out that my identity, who I am and all that I was becoming, was truly hidden in Christ.
Describe your role as a First Lady: Well…mine is somewhat different. My husband and I pastored for 4 years and now we have transitioned from pastoring people who generally meet in a brick and mortar building to shepherding people who connect with us from our Prophetic Ministry. See, I’m still a First Lady, but to a Prophet. My role is still very similar to that of a (once) Senior Pastor’s wife (First Lady); essentially I am still the counter-part to my husband (Dr Marvell T Boyce Sr, Prophet) who occupies the senior responsibility role over a church-like ministry (www.marvelltboyce.com). I minister, assisting in new birth and breakthrough in the lives of the people we meet through our prophetic ministry. Some of the encounters turn into long lasting mentoring relationships and covenant partners. I’m an intercessor for our Prophetic Ministry. So I help create the needed atmosphere and frequency that is conducive for the prophetic to flow and the will of God to be released. Alongside my husband, I minister to and counsel marriage couples (many who have been torn and broken) teaching how trust and pure intimacy can be restore to their unions. I really enjoy speaking at marriage retreats especially during the women’s break out session. The hot topic is usually SEX… marital intimacy if that was too bold Lol…to some this subject might be taboo, but it’s a subject I don’t shy away from. I become very transparent in these sessions. “To get a story.. you have to give a story”.
What’s the best advice that you’ve been given about being a First Lady: To be myself and to be the person God has called me to be.
What is the biggest challenge that you face as a First Lady: One of the biggest challenges I have faced was during my season of Transition from a local Pastoral Ministry to a Prophetic Ministry that travels extensively. Unknowingly to many, I felt out of place, as though I had lost my platform to minister from but what I didn’t know is that I was becoming a blueprint. See I didn’t personally know any First Ladies who had gone through this same transition, so I didn’t have an accessible role model in this area. So I started on an identity search. During this season I really found out that my identity, who I am and all that I was becoming, was truly hidden in Christ. In some ways, I went through the same Prophetic Incubation as a prophet. An awakening to the calling upon my life took place. I was forced to face my fears head on and deal with inner conflicts, inhibitions and resistance that arose to keep me from this calling. Little by little, the Holy Spirit uncovered things in me so I would be able to develop the temperament and personality that’s needed to walk alongside a prophet. I now embrace that I’m governed under a different mantle and it has released me. There are no circumstances, events, titles, geographical locations, nor possessions that could ever define me… my identity is in Christ.
Please God, people are fickle, but GOD…HE is constant.
On Saturdays, one can usually find me: At work or spending quality time with my husband and/or children.
What is your favorite scripture: “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.” Proverbs 24:10 (NKJV). I call this my “drill sergeant” scripture. It always whips me back into shape when I feel like if want to give up!
What advice do you have for a First Lady new to her role: Do not find yourself becoming a people pleaser. Please God, people are fickle, but GOD…HE is constant
Where do you see yourself in 5 years: Still experiencing the fullness of God in my life but at an even greater magnitude.
