CONCERT RECAP: Kirk Franklin Gives Dynamic Performance in Memphis
By Angela Norfleet
At 7:30 p.m. sharp the lights dimmed at the Lander’s Center. The prelude offered by talented local artists was nothing short of professional, well organized, and spectacular. Memphis OOZES with great singers, musicians, and artists of all calibers and it was proven on the stage.
Then it began. Exciting, entertaining, heartfelt, anointed , reformed, uplifting–the list could go on and on. All of this and more describes “20 Years in One Night” with Kirk Franklin.
Most of us can recall the unfortunate events following a concert back in 1996 that landed Kirk Franklin in a local hospital with serious injuries. The only thing that landed on 6/8/16 was the power of the Holy Spirit! It’s been 20 years since Kirk has visited the Bluff City and he did NOT short step. He along with his phenomenal band and background vocals hit the stage at 8:30 p.m. and did not exit the stage until 11:30 p.m. He left all he had on that stage and walked away with nothing, not even a voice.
It’s been 20 years since Kirk has visited the Bluff City and he did NOT short step.
Kirk was humble, hilarious and left audience members feeling happy. With a combination of traditional, contemporary, and hip hop music, it’s safe to say that no one left the Lander’s Center unfulfilled.
Kirk calls himself our boy, our nephew, and our cousin. Although he was on stage, his warm down to earth personality made it seem like that favorite family member .
Awesome job Kirk! From “Stomp” to ” 1,2,3″ you blessed the Bluff City!
