Prayer is an essential, vital part of the life of a believer of Jesus Christ; just like faith, prayer is a necessity, not an option. I found this profound word in my commentary: “God will bless Elijah and send rain on Israel, but Elijah must pray for it. If the chosen nation is to prosper, Samuel must plead for it. If the Jews are to be delivered, Daniel must intercede. God will bless Paul, and the nations shall be converted, but Paul must pray…. Let me have your prayers, and I can do anything! Let me be without my people’s prayers, and I can do nothing!” Charles Haddon Spurgeon.
How does one function without prayer? The word of God tells us to pray without ceasing (I Thessalonians 5:17-18); we’re to pray in and out of season, and not just when we need something from God! Prayer is the daily dialogue, the daily download and upload between you and God, the Father.
God wants to spend time with you daily and not in a manner for which all your doing is asking for this and for that but in a manner for which you express thanksgiving unto Him (Colossians 4:2 NLT); you express how good, faithful, loyal, kind, sovereign, and beautiful He is, because He really is! You inquire about what need He has of you, what can you do to please Him, and then you share with the Father your needs, though He’s already aware of them (all of them). Now I’m not saying to pray in this order, I’m simply saying don’t go a day without spending time in prayer for it’s the daily power source that keeps you functioning and prevents you from going insane. How, you may inquire, I’ll tell you how, because PRAYER STILL WORKS! Now just in case you don’t know what to pray, let me introduce you to Matthew 6:9-13. Happy reading!
