As Summer NAMM 2017 is going to be hot off the presses and just days away, the non-profit arm (NAMM.org) has already heated up! Nashville, TN aka “Music City USA” is once again the proud host city. A series of events, invaluable music endeavors have began or will take place soon. The official time span for Summer NAMM 2017 is: July 13 -15, 2017. This year’s event will include an array of “all things music” ranging from; Concerts, Education, Exhibitors/Vendors, Public Affairs, Special Events and the NAMM Foundation. All taking place at the downtown based beautiful Music City (Convention) Center.

Music Education Highlights From The 2017 NAMM Advocacy D.C. Fly-In
The 2017 NAMM Music Education Advocacy D.C. Fly-In was a great success! The week started with more than 50 NAMM members attending the Day of Service at Jefferson Middle School Academy. On Tuesday, ninety-eight delegates prepared for their efforts on Capitol Hill by participating in advocacy training at the Newseum and a lunchtime keynote by David Brooks, New York Times columnist and Turnaround Arts artist. The next day, the Country Music Association, VH1 Save the Music Foundation, and three-time World Series winner, Bernie Williams joined NAMM members for a day of advocacy. Over 170 meetings took place with Members of Congress or their staff to advocate for music education.
Schmitt Music Recognizes Local School Districts
Travis Christopherson, Eau Claire store manager of Schmitt Music, officially presented the Whitehall High School District, Whitehall, WI with a Best Communities for Music Education award during their May 9 board meeting. Congratulations to the 527 districts and 92 schools that were recognized for their quality music education programs.
Industry Scholarships Available for College Students
College students in the music industry or students pursuing a career in the industry are encouraged to apply for a Gard Scholarship or President’s Innovation Award. College students employed by NAMM members are welcome to apply for Gard Scholarship. The deadline to apply is August 31. Students pursuing a career in the music industry are advised to apply for the NAMM President’s Innovation Award, which offers a $600 travel stipend to attend The 2018 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, January 25-28, 2018. The deadline to apply is September 30.

The SupportMusic Coalition on Coalitions Forum will feature national education policy updates, inspiring discussion and state music education advocacy team reports. Join with NAMM members and music education colleagues working on state and local advocacy efforts for music and arts education. Co-hosted by Jeff Poulin, Arts Education Program Manager for Americans for the Arts, and Mary Luehrsen, Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations for NAMM.
