According to Elleanor Davis Starks , Founder and Executive Director & COO of the “100 Black Women of Funeral Service, Inc. Organization”, countless people are uninformed or even naive to the key aspects of the Funeral Business. The funeral service profession is very reliant on knowledge and service, people and their skills and performance both, professional and compassionate. Funeral Homes have a huge interest in the capabilities of their employees which they attempt to develop through formal training and on-the-job training and progressive job assignments. “EVERYONE” has a role in executing a well-organized funeral establishment. Put all this together and you increase productivity in your funeral establishment and the distinguished and customary funeral services that are provided for each family. Funeral Directors have a very dedicated side that makes them very unique.

The “100 Black Women of Funeral Service” are supporting and working in conjunction with the upcoming National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) Convention to be held October 20 – 24, 2013 at the Austin, Texas Convention Center as their Annual Exhibit Partner. The 100 BWFS Annual Cancer Awareness Day Event – “Hot Pink After Hours”, takes place on Monday, October 21 from 5:00pm to 6:45pm. The day starts when the Exhibit Hall Opens 12n-5pm when all Convention Attendees are given Pink Ribbon and the Ladies wear their Roberta March Cancer Awareness Scarf. If they don’t have one, they can purchase one in the booth with other various cancer awareness products which can be bought for the entire NFDA Convention. (Partial proceeds go to the Roberta’s House Grief Center in Baltimore, MD and to the Susan G. Komen Foundation). The late Roberta March –a distinguished co-founder of the March Funeral Home – was a life member of the 100 BWFS who died from Cancer and the event is done to honor her memory each year. No one is immune to being affected by cancer especially our funeral colleagues. Founder Elleanor Davis Starks is a 21 year Breast Cancer Survivor and Pres. Hector, CEO is celebrating 8 years cancer free. Many other members have not been as fortunate so we celebrate their lives.
